In fall 2025, Isabel Smith and Tori Cassady, two University of Southern California graduate researchers, co-founded Science on the Rocks, a Los Angeles-based science speaker series hosted at Rhythm Room, a local cocktail bar and jazz club. This series connects early-career scientists with the public through accessible conversations across a range of scientific fields, with a particular emphasis on Earth and environmental sciences.

Science on the Rocks is a FREE event hosted once a month at Rhythm Room.
Each night features two LA-based early-career scientists shairing their research.
Each speaker gives a ~25-minute talk, followed by 10–15 minutes of Q&A—so there’s plenty of time to ask all your burning questions.
Grab a handcrafted drink and some tasty bites while you learn about cool science, and stick around afterward for live jazz.
